Casual Dinner @ Canto Kitchen (20101121)

Had a casual dinner with regular wine buddies at Canto Kitchen 广东饮食, People’s Park Complex @ China Town. The place is rather hard to find as the entrance is at the car park, next to Five Star Travel.

A buddy suggested this restaurant as they served decent Cantonese food and the price is affordable with free corkage. Thus, we happily BYO our wines with stemware to try this out.

Double Taste Pork Ribs 鸳鸯排骨

  • A signature dish which is very good. Coffee One side with coffee sauce and another side is fruity sauce.

Prawn in Orange sauce

  • I like this. The sauce is refreshing and the prawn is big.

Crab with glutinous rice

  • Good but not great. The crab is rather small…..

We also ordered Tofu and Vege. All in all, the food here is decent, just a tad small in portion. My friends who have been with this restaurant for several times, commended that the standard has been dropped. 4 of us spent about $27 per pax.

TNs:

1997 Joseph Drouhin Griottes-Chambertin (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griottes-Chambertin Grand Cru)

  • Alcohol :: 13%
    It would be great if this drank 3yrs earlier. Med garnet core with brownish hue. Focus, expressive nose of red cherry and orangey core with perfume floral nose with some mushroom, dried tea leaves and a touch of rustiness. Fully mature, I think the nose is showing more class and complexity than the palate of which the palate is start to get tired after 30mins in the glass. However, it is still a pleasure to drink a mature red Burgundy. For the 1st 30mins, it is lively on the good intense mid palate with some sour cherry, red cherry and mushroom to it and added more depth with dried tea leaves flavor. Smooth, still a touch of tannin that added more intensity and grip to the palate with some spices show on the med finishing. Fully mature and drinking beautifully now. A wine that show the sense of elegance and finesse, however it lack of the fruits (weight) to match with the Grand Cru status.

2007 Domaine la Barroche Châteauneuf-du-Pape Terroir (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape)

  • Alcohol :: 15%
    This is certainly too young to drink. The black inkish color boost the tell-tale 2007 aromas profile with its high toned floral, sweet cherry, blackcurrant liquor, roasted herb and tons of glycerin and alcohol. Powerful, intense palate with lots of dark fruits, licorice and roasted herb supported by lively acidity and tannic structure that leads to somewhat disjointed, long spicy finishing with lots of alcohol heat. A monster that with huge fruits concentration, structure and alcohol but kinda simple profile. Give it few years in the bottle that might do some good to it.
